How many wars are there in the world today?
According to the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP), the world's leading archive on conflicts, 195 armed conflicts were active in 2025. The count includes wars between states, civil wars, fighting between armed groups and organised violence against civilians.
In 2025 wars killed about 245,000 people: 670 a day on average. These are conservative estimates: they count only direct deaths in fighting, not those who die later from hunger, disease or destroyed hospitals.
Behind every number is a human being who had a name. No one is born anyone's enemy: we learn it later, and we can unlearn it.
Peace will not come from above. If those who carry a rifle do not stop shooting of their own will, no treaty is enough. That is why it starts here: with one person saying “I exist, and you exist.”
