How many people are forced to flee their homes?
According to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in 2025 about 109 million people were living away from home because they were forced to flee war, violence and persecution.
They are not all “migrants” crossing the sea. Most are internally displaced: they lost their home but stayed in their own country. Then there are refugees, who crossed a border, and asylum seekers, who are waiting for an answer.
It is as if an entire country, larger than Germany, the United Kingdom or France, were on the move without knowing where it will sleep tonight.
No one chooses to leave everything behind. Those who flee are human beings like you, with the same rights, wherever they are.
