How many people suffer from hunger in the world?
According to FAO, the UN food agency, in 2024 8.1% of the world's population was undernourished: they did not eat enough for a normal, active life. That is about 665 million human beings.
Hunger is not a problem of quantity: the world produces plenty of food, and a huge share of it is wasted. It is a problem of how we share it, of wars that block harvests, of prices the poor cannot pay.
Hunger means children who grow less, fall ill more often, and die of ordinary diseases.
If you respect the human being, you fight hunger. It is not charity: it is recognising that those who are hungry have the same rights as you.
